3 Day Arctic Camp with winter kayaking

This is a unique and personalized trip!

Our packages are all inclusive, you and your travelling company

will have the Camp for yourself, will stay in your own yurt, paddle

in magnificent scenery, go hiking and sightseeing,

enjoy local food and get close to an

Arctic wildlife and coastal life.

Our camp is ideal for families, couples or small groups searching for a totally different experience. You can look forward to something exceptional!

Experience a spectacular Arctic Archipelago from our campsite on the island of Rebbenesøya, north of Tromsø, by a cultural landlandscaping area with several nature reserves. The camp has two yurts, it is without road access and electricity, and we fetch water from a small stream nearby. This is the place to experience - calmness, silence, a lot of weather and the charms of each seasons with its different color schemes and peculiarities. With no light pollution this is a amazing place for star gazing and experiencing the magical Northern Lights. If we are lucky maybe the Northern lights will start dancing while out kayaking.

We will paddle in crystal clear water along beautiful islands, around islets and sheaves. It’s quite common to see white-tailed eagles, otters and seals. Porpoises, dolphins also pass our camp from time to time, or if you are lucky you might spot them on the kayaking trip.

As well as the wonderful biological diversity, the area has a rich cultural heritage dating to medieval times and, in some cases, even as far back as the Stone Age.

Wintertime the weather can be everything from calm to very rough and stormy and it can change very quikly. This is a part of the charm staying in this place. We therefore have to plan the days according to the weather forecast and the conditions at the time. We also of course consider your experience and your wishes. Below we have made a suggestion but the order and kind of actvities is flexible.

Day 1

We will pick you up in Tromsø city or another place by agreement. We then drive in the direction of the camp. The journey to the camp is an adventure itself. We will drive alongside fjords with fantastic views. When we drive over the mountain pass we will pass Norway’s largest island lake. The drive finishes at the Mikkelvika ferry landing, where we take a 10-minute ferry crossing over to Bromnes on the island of Rebbenesøya. Thereafter we have a 15-30-minute walk- or snowshoe trip to the camp.

After settling into your yurt, we start to warm it up, and we get to fetch water from the nearby stream. We thereafter prepare a light meal and plan the evenings kayak trip. Look forward to a very special experience, to paddle in the darkness, and if we are lucky, the Northern Lights can suddenly start dancing over your head. Back at the camp we enjoy a nice dinner and you will be able to enjoy a relaxing time either in a warm and cozy yurt in comfortable chairs in front of the woodfired oven or outside around a campfire.

Look forward to a nice sleep in the yurt in our super comfortable beds.

Day 2

Next day after breakfast we get ready for a new sea kayaking trip, this time in the daylight of the Arctic winter. This will be a totaly different experience from yesterdays kayaktrip in darkness. We plan to be out kayaking half of the day. The area surrounding our camp offers enormous variety for sea kayaking with wonderful trips of varying lengths and levels. The crystal-clear water makes it possible to study the marine life underneath your kayak. During the trip, we have short breaks were we eat some snacks and get som hot to drink. When we return to the camp we prepare a nice warm lunch either inside the yurt or outdoors around a campfire. The second part of the day we plan all dependent of the snowcondition either hiking or snowshoeing or crosscountry skiing. It is possible to do trips directly form the Camp, we can also choose tracks on the Island. The Island even has its own trail with light making it easy for cross-country skiing wintertime.

Evening time and if you still have some enery left we can do another short kayakingtrip maybe with the northern lights dancing above our head.

Or, if you prefer, simply relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere at the Camp. We assure you that this is a wonderful place to relax. You can play card, read a book, listening to the sound of the sparkling wood oven in the light of candles, before you go to sleep.

Day 3

After breakfast we plan to do a sightsiing trip on the Island, including breaks underway were you can take photoes. We drive southwest on the island to Engvika, which is perhaps home to the world’s most beautifully located shop. Iif conditions allow us we can hike the hills just nearby were you will have a spectacular view of the open sea. From this view you willl be able to see the Island Sørfugløya, towering on the horizon. The Island is well know for the puffin colony. Another beautiful place south on the Island is Måsvik which also offer a beutiful view, with white beaches, clear shallow and green water and lots of small Islands.

We can also choose some of the marked routes on the Island, wich offer amazing views.

We either plane to make lunch during this sightseeing trip and do the retour directly after the sightseeing trip. An alternative is that we return to the camp were we prepare a warm lunch and get ready to the trip back to Tromsø.

Practical information

Please bring warm winter clothes: woollen or other thermal underwear, fleece and a water and wind proof jacket and trousers, warm hat, and gloves. You also need to bring highshafted warm winterboots. We recommend dressing in layers to keep warm. You can borrow thermal suits at the camp. We have spikes and snowshoes and equipment for cross countryskiing.

The guests and the guide/host prepare the meals together. The meals can be prepared in the fully equipped kitchen in the yurts, at the boathouse or outdoors around a camp fire.

While no previous paddling experience is necessary, you must be in medium physical condition. To get to the Camp we have a 15-minute walk on a uneven path along the seashore. Wintertine in periods it might be nesseary to use an alternative route over a hill. During the middle of winter, we walk this stretch in darkness using headtorches, which is very exciting.
